File:National Portrait Gallery visitors view First Lady Michelle Obama.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Hollywood Comes to MO - Joan Valerie1.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{self|cc-zero}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Hi Innisfree987, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

Gbawden (talk) 17:55, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Gbawden, I am concerned to hear this. As I am not an admin, I cannot see the source I had originally given; could you share it with me so I can understand where I went wrong? I am confused because I do see what appears to me to be a correctly licensed video of the subject from May 2018 here for instance. Thanks for your help. Innisfree987 (talk) 19:46, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
As an update, I found my copy of what I believe is the above screenshot and that link is the source. Did I not indicate it correctly? see from the logs that is the source I gave. So yes if you could let know what the problem was, that’d be great! Thanks. Innisfree987 (talk) 20:07, 20 May 2022 (UTC)
When I checked I didn't see a CC license but when i went back to check there was, my bad. Gbawden (talk) 04:39, 21 May 2022 (UTC)
I appreciate your taking the time to review it, thank you @Gbawden! Innisfree987 (talk) 05:18, 21 May 2022 (UTC)

Sean O'Brien

Hi, I replaced the photo with a personal photo for the time being. However, I am the communications director for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the original headshot photo is from www.teamster.org and is not copyrighted and is open to public use. Vateamster (talk) 18:24, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
@Vateamster, thanks for your message! Great, for verification we just need the specific links to where on the website these images can be found with the indication they’re freely licensed. If you link me I’ll help update the files so there’s no further confusion. One other note, it’s also required that you disclose your paid editing on the talk pages of any pages related to your job, like O’Brien’s. See en:WP:PAID. File:Sally Kornbluth 2023.jpg

Pay attention to licensing
Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.

File:Sally Kornbluth 2023.jpg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file.

If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.

Did you mean this template? I don't know if it is public domain though, since this might count as a committee hearing. Bremps... 02:21, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
Hi, thank you, that is what I meant, errant click while uploading; have corrected. Meanwhile I am pretty sure the prior discussion which I am only just now seeing was concluded erroneously—the license doesn’t say committee hearings are excluded, rather that only the ones not conducted in the chambers of the House or Senate are excluded. This was in the House. Innisfree987 (talk) 02:29, 10 December 2023 (UTC)
Strike that, I’ve just read the C-SPAN copyright information and it does seem this should be excluded. How unfortunate. Innisfree987 (talk) 02:34, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2023 voting is open!

2022 Picture of the Year: Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), Little Egret (Egretta garzetta) and Gadwall (Mareca strepera) in Nepal.

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2023 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2023) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,

Enough with your harassment

I warmly suggest you to put an end to your harassment attempts. Specifically referring to: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Alves_Stargazer#c-Innisfree987-20240523132700-File:Fuck_off_rebecca_meme.png https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Alves_Stargazer#c-Innisfree987-20240523132900-File:Fuck_off_rebecca.png https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Alves_Stargazer#c-Innisfree987-20240523132900-File:Fuck_off_Rebecca_meme.jpg

Reporting images as copyrighted requires proof of copyright infringment, not lack of proof. You still went on not just erasing my edits without even writing a single line on the talk page but even far and beyond by claiming copyrights infringements on images that I created and never were subject to any form of copyright to begin with. It is obvious by reading your edit history that you either have some tie to or some admiration toward Rebecca Hazelton, but I won't tolerate you harassing me (or others) to satisfy your defensive ego. Alves Stargazer (talk) 19:16, 30 January 2025 (UTC)

You’ll notice that all three files were in fact deleted, so you’re not correct about what’s required. Meanwhile the harassment here seems to be on your part. Don’t post on my talk page again. Innisfree987 (talk) 09:42, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
